In the spirit of practicality, I wanted a pet that somehow contributed to our family. Chickens seemed perfect since they produce eggs, and we seem to go through a lot of eggs. I also like that when I get tired of the chickens, we can eat them or get rid of them easily since we live in farm country. We have 3 red pullets and 3 pullets. Why 6? That is the hatchery requirement to have at least 6. So far they are super cute (but at this point I have not bonded with them to the extent that I couldn't eat them). Easter is my favorite holiday, and I also like that they remind me of Easter.
